Sunday, October 31, 1948

Kids went to sunday school & we stayed in bed till 11:30 did up work & got dinner. Gail went to Nortons & Lyle to Ballentynes. Stan & Louise came & took us to Nampa after our seed & beans. Went bowling. got home at 6: & Ivard did chores. Gail got home at 8: rained all day. We played penochle.

Saturday, October 30, 1948

We did up the work and I served & waited for Ivard. He got home at 5: Kids & I made a cake. We ate & the Kids went haloweening and Ivard & I loved. I was so glad to see him. Gail never got home till 1: AM he'd gone to a show over to Adrian with Jimmy.

Friday, October 29, 1948

I had to help the guy who came to grind a ton of grain. did up the work and spent all day embrodering. Kids had a party to school today. I stayed up till midnight sewing. Ivard called & said he'd be home tomorrow. laid off.

Thursday, October 28, 1948

did up my work & spent all day botteling 14 qts pumpkin and 2 bottles cranberry sauce. We ate & did dishes and Limberts came and took us up to school to haloween programe. Kind of a mess. washed my hair & bathed.

Wednesday, October 27, 1948

scrubbed and cleaned the whole house then I made Lyle & Gail undershirts out of old underwear. I bottled 8 qts sweet pickles. helped Kids sack 20 sacks of grain to be ground. we ate at 7:30 & I sewed until midnight.

Tuesday, October 26, 1948

did up work and changed beds and die my washing and cleaned back porch. we ate & fixed water taps so they wouldn't freeze. Kids did dishes & I got clothes in and put away. embroidered until midnight.

Monday, October 25, 1948

Did up my work. had to wake Ray up to go over to Adrian with Hickmans after groceries. This afternoon I bottled 8 qts prunes & made 10 bottles of prune jam. We ate supper & Kids did dishes. we went to bed early.

Sunday, October 24, 1948

Gail & Jerry went up to go to sunday school but Mr. Carlson took them to Parma with him to get Gene. did up work & made jam. read this afternoon. we ate & kids did dishes & chores. We ate jello & cake & they went to bed & I wrote to Mother, Berniece, Louie and to my pop. went to bed at midnight.

Saturday, October 23, 1948

Gail & Jerry went up to pick up potatoes for Stockers. I started syrup on sweet pickles & made a batch of jam & just feed Kids & sent big ones off to party when here came Stan & Louise to go to Nampa. Left Kay with Kids & went had a fast ride up, scared me to death, loved my pop for an hr. We got home at 5:30 & I got supper. Gail didn't go to party. read till midnight.

Friday, October 22, 1948

did up my work & did the iorning from the last two wash days. cooked a kettle of prunes to make jam but didn't get it done. got supper & sewed until midnight. worked on relief society pillow slips.

Thursday, October 21, 1948

Ivard left for Nampa with milk man. I spent all day makeing 10 qts grape juice & 11 qts jam. Kids came home & did chores & we ate & they did dishes. I listened to radio & got my books up until 11:15. Kids didn't go to primary. Stockers baby was sick.

Wednesday, October 20, 1948

Ivard got all ready to go back to Nampa & I talked him out of it. We picked the rest of grapes & were just eating lunch when Mrs Ricks & came to go relief society teaching. got home at 5: Ivard had done dishes & they finished digging potatoes & pitting them. I got clothes in & put away & got supper. went to bed early, iorned Ivards clothes.

Tuesday, October 19, 1948

did up work & gathered up clothes to wash. Hickmans came & took us to Parma & we got Gail, Gene & Ray some new shoes. came home & had lunch & Ivard helped me do washing. I made ginger bread & got supper. we went to bed early.

Monday, October 18, 1948

did up work & wrote mother a letter. Ivard and I fooled around all day and had a nap with Kids. When Kids came they helped Ivard dig potatoes for winter. I made a cake and got supper. We listed to radio awhile & went to bed. I read Mrs. Mikes cow is better.

Sunday, October 17, 1948

Lyle, Gail, & Jerry went to sunday school. I cleaned up house & did 10 qts prunes. Ivard came about 11:30 & was I glad to see him. Gail went home with Norton from sunday school & Lyle with Melvin. I made a cake & got dinner. We laid around & visited. Went down to see cow & she was up. Syble & Lee brought Gail home. Lyle came at 11.

Saturday, October 16, 1948

Ivard expected me to come up & stay until tomorrow but I couldn't leave Kids & the sick cow. we still can't get her up. I should have called up but I didn't. I bottles prunes. cold today. Ivard called up at midnight & he sure was mad at me. I had to bawl. I sat up till 3:30 A.M. reading, about froze to death.

Friday, October 15, 1948

I called Ivard, sure miss him. Gail stayed home to help the Vet with cow. he didn't show up till noon. She's foundered, he doctored her. said we should get her up in a shed. I called Glen & they came over after dark he couldn't do anything for cow. did 50 qts grape juice & 10 qts prunes.

Thursday, October 14, 1948

cold & stormy. Lee & Syble came over & took me to Parma at noon. I got groceries, flour sugar (100 lbs) & bottles. got home at 4: One cow missing Susie. found her down in pasture but couldn't get her up. Kids came from Primary & did chores & we ate. called Vet for cow & he was comeing at midnight, but called at midnight & said he couldn't.

Wednesday, October 13, 1948

did up work then did wash, got them at 3: most of them got dry. made beef & noodle for supper. Lyle walked over to go to Mutual but wasn't any. walked home at 9: from hemingways. made beds & got Kids to bed. listened to radio until 11: feel a little better tonight.

Tuesday, October 12, 1948

got a letter from Louie & my Pop but he didn't have much to say. did up work & made grape jam, 17 bottles. Kids were late getting home from school & I had to get after them. we ate & Kids did dishes. I listened to radio and wrote to my Pop. got books up. nice day. I sure awful & went to bed at 11:

I sure have the blues, we're in such a mess. I have such a cold & haven't heard from pop. I spent all day makeing mince meat, got 13 qts. got a letter from Stella. Jerry & Gail went delivering Xmas cards. we ate & went to bed at 11: Me & 3 big kids listened to the radio. relief society teachers came.

conference, no sunday school. We cleaned up the house. Gail went down to Stokers & never got home until after dark. I got dinner & we ate about 3:30. Kids did dishes & we listened to radio. Kids went to bed & I got books up & wrote to mother. Miss my pop awful bad. nice warm day. I have an awful cold.

Saturday, October 9, 1948

Lee came over & took me to Adrian after groceries & meat. never got home until 3: waiting for Syble to use my vacuum. cleaned front porch & changed kids beds. put Lyle & Gail on front porch. we ate & kids went to bed. I had the blues & had to bawl awhile. miss my pop. am worried about paying our bills.

I didn't feel good today so I embroidered on relief society pillow slips all day. Ivard called but I couldn't hear him very good & we got cut off. He did say he'd been out on a part with the Waits (Yieter) I didn't get the details but I don't like it. stayed up & listened to radio.

Thursday, October 7, 1948

did up work & made 9 pts grape jam. picked the beans, got enough for two meals. Kids went to primary & never got home until after 6: we ate & did chores. went to bed early, got my birthday Present from mother 2 silk underwear & stationary also 8 flannel night shirts for Kids.

Wednesday, October 6, 1948

Ivard milked & I made hot cakes for break. Kids went to school & Ivard got ready & went to Nampa to stay, with milk man at 9: I made 14 bottles of prune jam & cooked grapes to do tomorrow. Got Kids to bed & got books up & wrote letters. Went to bed at 10:15. colder & cloudy today.

Tuesday, October 5, 1948

Lyle & Gail stayed home from school & they finished getting up the hay. I cooked dinner then this afternoon I made pumpkin pies & some fudge & got supper. Ivard cut kids hair & we ate & listened to radio awhile. Kids did dishes, bathed & went to bed.

Monday, October 4, 1948

Gail didn't come home till nearly noon so I helped Ivard & Lyle haul two loads of hay. Stan & Louise came & took us to Nampa to dinner & show. Got home at 6: & saw how Kids were then we went over to Stans & had supper and played "tripoley." Stan brought us home at 11:30. had a lot of fun today. saw our wrecked car & it sure is a wreck.

Sunday, October 3, 1948

Ivard & Kids went to sunday school. I listened to conference & had dinner ready, had a delayed birthday cake. Kids did dishes & I slept all afternoon. Gail stayed down to Stokers all day & night. Ivard went to bed & I got books up & wrote letters till midnight.

Saturday, October 2, 1948

Ivard & Kids hauled hay all day Lee came & took me to Parm. Syble came over this afternoon & brought a chicken. Lee went to Caldwell We made noodles for supper & they ate & went home & we did chores & listened to radio. I read a 25¢ book. We went to bed at 11:30.

Friday, October 1, 1948

Ivard got home about 8: & we were happy to see him. We ate breakfast & they were going to do hay but we had flat tire & no patch, neighbors either. We laid around & loved all day. Kids didn't have school, institute. Mrs. Carlson came & took us & Lyle & Gail over to Oregon Trail to Garner reception. good music & a lot of fun dancing.
